Maligano Jasper is a rare and striking variety of brecciated jasper found only in Sulawesi, Indonesia. It formed deep within ancient, volcanic landscapes where powerful geological forces fractured solid rock and later healed it with new mineral growth. Over millions of years, volcanic activity caused the host rock to crack apart. Silica rich waters then seeped through these fractures, “gluing” the pieces back together with chalcedony and quartz. This natural process created the stone’s signature mosaic pattern, a network of angular fragments outlined by contrasting veins.
Because it is mined in limited quantities and requires careful hand excavation, Maligano Jasper has become highly collectible.
