Maligano Jasper is a trade name for a colourful, silica rich material known for its intricate patterns and brecciated appearance. Created when earlier rock was broken apart and later cemented together by silica rich material and other minerals.
The green colouring can be caused by minerals such as chlorite and other iron and magnesium bearing minerals, although the exact composition varies between pieces. No two pieces are the same.
